Indigenous Illyrian gods, although under different names correspond to the Roman gods, and immediately after the roman invasion altars were raised to divinities, without much reflection, under the old names or under new latin names.  A Greek writer calls the Illyrians "very respectful towards the gods". Enji was the God of Fire and his name is preserved until today in the Albanian word  “e-enjte” which means "Thursday". (The English word itself coincides for Thor's day, as Thor is the God of thunder). Bindus is thought to have been the God of water resources.  Prema, was the goddess of fertility and birth, her name has remained the name “e-premte” the Albanian word for Friday and corresponding to Roman Venus  and Teutonic Freja.  Surdi, was God of the weather. Silvanus, village defender, despite his Roman name, was a true Illyrian God and is believed to be introduced to Africa by Illyrian officers. Diana, too, despite her name, was an Illyrian goddess.  Both, Silvanus and Diana are as Illyria representatives in the Trajan Arch in Benevento;  and it seems safe to assume that their Roman names they had replaced the old Illyrian names.  Saturn was the Illyrian "Shëtuni" and his name survived in the Albanian word for the Saturday (hebrew: Sabbath), which is "e-shëtuna". A commonly mentioned deity is Medaur, who was the God of Healing and similar,to  the “greek” Asclepio/ Esculapio. Perënditë indigjene ilire, edhe pse nën emra të ndryshëm, përkonin me perënditë romake, dhe fill pas pushtimit u ngritën altarë ndaj hyjnive, pa e vrarë shumë mendjen, nën emra të vjetër apo nën emra të rinj. Një shkrimtar grek i quan Ilirët “shumë të respektueshëm ndaj perëndive”. 

Enji ishte perëndia e zjarrit dhe emri i tij ruhet deri sot te fjala shqipe “e-enjte”, që do të thotë “e enjte” [“Thursday”] (vetë fjala angleze përkon natyrisht për ditën e Thor-it, duke qenë se Thor-i është perëndia e bubullimës). Bindus-i mendohet se ka qenë perëndia e burimeve të ujit. Prema, ishte perëndesha e pjellorisë dhe e lindshmërisë: emri i saj ka mbetur te emri “e-premte”, fjala shqipe për të premten dhe që korrespondon me Venusin romak dhe Frejan teutonike. Surdi, ishte perëndia e motit. Silvanusi, mbrojtësi i fshatit, përkundër emrit të tij romak, ishte një perëndi e vërtetë ilire dhe besohet të jetë futur në Afrikë nga oficerët ilirë. Diana, gjithashtu, përkundër emrit të saj, ishte një perëndeshë ilire.
Të dy, Silvanusi dhe Diana figurojnë si përfaqësues të Ilirisë në Harkun e Trajanit në Benevento; dhe duket i sigurt supozimi se emrat e tyre romakë kishin zëvendësuar ata më të vjetrit, ilirë. Saturni ishte në ilirishte “Shëtuni” dhe emri i tij mbijetoi në fjalën shqipe për të shtunën, e cila është “e-shëtuna”. Një hyjni e përmendur shpesh është Medauri, i cili besohet të ketë qenë perëndia e shërimit dhe i përngjashmi ilir i Eskulapit grek [shënim i përkthyesit: A. Stipçeviç e quan me prejardhje ilire Eskulapin].
